The Seventh Sacrifice

Sermon Notes

Introduction:

When the animals were brought aboard Noah’s Ark, the clean animals were not loaded up in pairs, but seven of each kind. Every seventh lonely animal of each kind was brought onboard to be sacrificed. That seventh animal was a type and shadow of Jesus Christ, the sacrificial Lamb of God! There is still a sacrifice for you.

Key Scriptures:

Genesis 7:1-3; Genesis 8:8-12; Matthew 3:13-16; Leviticus 14:2-7

Key Points:

  1. There is a sacrifice for you. Jesus is the seventh sacrificial animal. Noah brought on the seventh of each animal just to be sacrificed. Jesus was prepared just to be sacrificed for you!
  2. Jesus is still the answer. He is the seventh sacrificial dove that was prepared to be sacrificed. His blood can still set you free! Jesus didn’t just remove your sin but took it on himself on the Cross. Jesus became sin and felt all the pain and hurt that people experience from sin.
  3. Jesus is the perpetuation for your sin. Perpetuation means to remove wrath by offering a gift. He was the gift offered to avert the wrath of God!

Final Thoughts:

The past is over! You don’t have to stay in the valley of guilt, shame, and condemnation. Jesus is the seventh animal that was prepared as a sacrifice for you, and he can still set you free! He’ll even use the hurt and pain of your past for His glory.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does the sacrifice of Jesus mean for you?
  2.  Why did Jesus have to die on the Cross to forgive you?
  3. Is there any part of your past holding you back from serving God? How can you surrender it to the Lord and walk in freedom?
