Father, give me power with God and give me favor with men.

Can you imagine what our lives would look like if we prayed this and refused to stop until God answered?
It certainly worked for Jacob. He received a completely new identity. A lifetime of deception completely changed in a moment. A reversal of plots so to say. And to think, all it took was hitting rock bottom in a weeping wrestling match with a celestial being.

Have you ever found yourself there? The bottom. Where things cannot get any worse?

I have. There have been a few times in my life where I have found myself seemingly backed into a corner. Situations staring me down that I did not have the power to change, doctors couldn’t fix and solutions couldn’t be derived. Desperate. But every time, God has met me with His grace and mercy.

When you get desperate enough to hold on through the battle, when you want change bad enough to wrestle through your weakness, you can have an encounter with God that will change who you are. Israel—Prince with God. That’s who Jacob the deceiver became!

Rarely do we consider the very thing that seems to be falling to shambles in our lives may actually be his grace leading us into our true purpose, calling and identity. His grace works in the small whispers and sometimes it backs us into a corner. But one thing is for sure, when we have an encounter with Him, a real encounter, we will never leave the same.

What is it you are facing today that is taking every ounce of energy to wrestle? Could it be that God so loves you that He is getting you to the end of yourself?

God wants to rename your future. He wants you to walk in power with Him and favor with man. But it means letting go of some past things; giving up your worldly identity and taking hold of the blessing He has for you.

You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule (Matthew 5:3 MSG).
