Is marriage still a good idea? That may be an odd question coming from someone like me but I have read some disturbing statistics about marriage. Did you know that 50 percent of marriages will end in divorce? Half of all marriages won’t make it! Research also shows that more than half of spouses will have an affair. Society has little respect for the institute of marriage. Divorce comes easy.

Maybe you are someone who has lived through the heartbreak of a divorce and you find yourself asking the same question, “Is marriage still a good idea?” The very definition of marriage is at risk today. And this attack on marriage is not new. In Mark 10, the Pharisees asked Jesus to expand upon the law established by Moses that allowed divorce. Like so many people today, they were wondering, “Is marriage still a good idea?” Jesus never hesitated when he responded.

“But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate”(Mark 10:6-9).

MARRIAGE IN NOT ONLY A GOOD IDEA … IT WAS GOD’S IDEA!

God designed marriage and he is the biggest supporter of your marriage today. He wants to see your marriage grow and prosper like never before. Jesus reaffirmed that God meant marriage to be between one man and one woman for life. From the beginning, we can read about God’s plan for marriage. “And the LORD God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him’” (Genesis 2:18).

God created a plan for companionship called marriage that is a good idea for everyone. The question is NOT whether or not God favors marriage. It is how to find the mate God favors for your life. And once you are married, God is for your marriage and wants you to have a stronger relationship each and every day with your spouse.
