Maybe you are on the fence with whether or not to fast. Maybe fasting is something foreign to you, and maybe even a little unnerving. Try it! Fasting is nothing more than abstaining from food to draw closer to God. It is not a diet, though getting healthy is a side effect. It is submitting our mind, body and spirit to an almighty God . . . A God who holds the universe in the palm of His hand, yet has a deep desire to draw close to each of us personally.
“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.”
Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love” (Joel 2: 12-13 ESV).

Crazy things happen when people get spiritually hungry. When people get hungrier for God than they are for food surgeons go in to operate on malignant tumors, only to find nothing there; babies with heart conditions are given clean bills of health; barren women find themselves expecting; jobless fathers stumble into financial breakthrough.
