Fasting | Day 10

Today we're taking a deeper look at returning to our first love, and discussing something many people struggle with: authority. Independence, stubbornness and wanting to be your own boss can create a separation-intended or not. Luke 7 sheds light on what it means to surrender; one of the greatest miracles God can give you. It only comes when you are willing to submit to God-given authority at any cost.

Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, "Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof Therefore, I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word , and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."

When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, "'I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!" And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick (LUKE 7:6-I0 NKJV).

A lot of people don't receive God's best because they have authority issues. We know that the original sin had to do with authority. Lucifer was in heaven, and he, along with one third of the angels, rebelled against God and tried to overthrow Him. Satan was number two in Heaven! But he wanted to be number one, and he was not willing to stay under the authority of God. According to Scripture, Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden and had everything they could ever want or imagine. God was going to supply it as long as they stayed under His covering ... under His authority. God said, "You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden-except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die" (Genesis 2:16-17 NLT). And Adam and Eve chose to come out from under the authority of God.

If you will remain under what God has put over you, then God will put under you the many things that you're supposed to have authority over. I want you to understand the word authority comes from the word author-God is the author of authority.

Think About It

  1. Have you had issues with submitting to authority figures in your own life?
  2. Are there any current issues with authorities you feel may be hindering your relationship with God?
