Acres of Diamonds
Open my eyes that I may see …
Psalm 119:18
It is possible that wondrous things are all around you, but you can’t see them. Jesus once said, speaking to the religious people, that they had eyes, but they could not see; that they had ears, but could not hear. We have to open our eyes to truly see.
What you see as worthless, someone else may find priceless. There is a reason we have the saying, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Because for ages people have been chasing vapor, they’ve climbed the fence only to land in mud. The story of the prodigal son is a familiar one, not just because we’ve heard it over and over, but we know that person—we’ve been that person. Everyday people give up their families, their careers, and their freedom for something they believe will be better than their reality. But God wants us to see the unfathomable riches He’s placed in the relationships, community, and resources He’s already placed in our lives.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.
Ephesians 1:18
If you know Jesus, you have a savior who will not leave you nor forsake you, and you are presently living in acres of diamonds, whether you realize it or not!
Every day people walk out on marriages and children as the enemy dangles false promises of happiness and fulfillment in front of them. People walk out on God over the allure of fortune, fame, and fun in the world, only to come back and find out, everything they were looking for was right back right back where they started from … in acres of diamonds.
Temptation will come. And if we’re not pursuing God, as we should be, we’ll give up when it gets tough. We’ll grow weary when there’s no reward. We’ll get jealous and envious when someone else reaches the top. But stay strong and confident in the place God has planted you. Don’t sell out so cheaply. Don’t believe the lies. Don’t give up something that someone else would give anything to have. You see, in the process of making a diamond, it takes time. A diamond is born because of intense heat and pressure. It’s the intense heat and pressure on carbon monoxide that takes coal, and causes a diamond to be born.
He will not put more on you than you’re able to bear—God knows just how much it will take to make a diamond out of you! Don’t run to greener pastures; ask God show you the boundless riches in Christ available to you—right where you are!
