Persistence Breaks Resistance

When the woman realized that she couldn’t remain hidden, she knelt trembling before him. In front of all the people, she blurted out her story—why she touched him and how at that same moment she was healed. —Luke 8:47

I believe persistence is how some of the miracles we read about in God’s word came about. Think about the story of the woman who had been bleeding for years in Luke chapter 8. Doctors could do nothing to help her. She was considered ‘unclean’ by the people of her time and basically ignored unless she came near a crowd, who would then move away from her for fear of contamination.

But she heard about Jesus. Even though she was outcast, even if she had to crawl, she would not be denied the opportunity to touch at least the very edge of His garment. Who would know? And maybe, just maybe, her healing would come forth. So she pressed, she persisted, she made her way through the mob that surrounded Jesus that day, and with a shaking arm she reached her dirty fingers out to grasp the edge of His robe.

She quickly let go; no doubt overwhelmed by the warmth of God’s love that began to flow through her body and heal what was wrong with her. She felt the power of the Lord because of Her persistence—and He felt her! He felt power leave Him and stopped everything to find out who it was. Luke wrote, “ When the woman realized that she couldn’t remain hidden, she knelt trembling before him. In front of all the people, she blurted out her story—why she touched him and how at that same moment she was healed.” (Luke 8:47).

When you are praying and fasting, your persistence breaks resistance. It brings you to a place where not only can you feel God powerfully, but He also feels you, just like He felt the woman who needed healing touch Him in the midst of that huge crowd, “And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched My clothes’” (Mark 5:30).

Fasting positions you to not only feel God—but for Him to hear your heart’s cry as well. Whatever forces have been resisting what God had coming in your life; your persistence will break resistance.
