IN THE BEGINNING

In the beginning, God . . . (Genesis 1:1 ESV)

Before there was anything, there was God. This should be the premise of our life.

I overheard a little boy playing a game with his mother. It went something like this: “Mom, what’s more important, chocolate or cheeseburgers?” the Mom answered emphatically, “Chocolate!”

“What’s more important, playing or taking a bath?” She pondered this one for just a minute and then answered, “Playing.”

“YES! Mom, what’s more important, God or our family?”

“God,” she said.

“What? Really? He’s more important than us?” And even though he sounded a little brokenhearted, she didn’t hesitate in answering, “Yes. Between God and anything, it will always be God. God comes first. That’s what makes our family!”

Your choice to put God first, at the beginning of the year establishes your priorities for the next twelve months. By beginning your year dedicated to fasting, prayer and worship, you’re declaring to God that He is first in your life and opening the door for His purpose and direction to be made clear before you.

HEAR THE SOUND . . . TODAY PRAY:
May my light break forth like the morning, my healing spring forth speedily and my righteousness go before me; May the glory of the Lord be my rear guard. When I call, may the Lord answer and when I cry, may He say, “Here I am” (Isaiah 58:8-9).
