What Voice Are You Listening To?

“And without faith, it is impossible to please God…” Hebrews 11:6

Understanding the power of your words and the power of stopping negative and faithless talk can change your life. There are many examples in the New Testament of people who got miracles because of what they said and didn’t say. In Mark 5, the woman with the issue of blood was very sick and had spent all of her money on doctors, but they could not help her. So she said to herself, “If I can but touch the hem of His garment, I will be made whole.” The miracle started with her confession of faith. The power in her confession activated the heart of God, and He orchestrated the miracle.

Another example was the Greek woman who had a little daughter who was possessed by an impure spirit. The woman was not Jewish and had no right to the blessing. She pleaded with Jesus, “Please, Master. My daughter is demon-possessed.” Jesus said, “It’s not right for me to give the children’s bread to dogs.” She replied, “But even the dogs get the crumbs, Master.” Her response caused Jesus to make a phenomenal statement. He said, “Great is this woman’s faith!” Then He said (paraphrased), “Because of what you said, woman, the demon is gone out of your daughter. I’ve broken demonic oppression, possession, and the attack over your house.” This woman was able to stay optimistic and hopeful despite the circumstances, and Jesus admired that kind of faith.

There are three voices that talk to you. The first is the voice of the enemy. He says words like, “Just give up, you will never stop struggling, or you can never change.” The enemy is constantly speaking. Then there’s the voice of God, which is His word. He speaks healing, health, joy, forgiveness, and acceptance. And then there’s the third voice- your own voice. God said in Malachi 2:17, “I am weary with your words.” If you’re just speaking defeat, you need to change that. The first thing that should come out of your mouth in the morning should be a “life and life more abundantly” statement.

In 2 Kings 4, a widow woman’s son had just died. She was on her way to ask the prophet to come pray for her son when his servant asked her a question. He asked, “Is it well with you?” Notice her statement of faith. She said, “It is well.” Then he asked, “Is it well with your son?” And even though her son had just died, she made this powerful statement, “It is well.” She trusted her God.

Her faith serves as an example of what you should do when you’re going through a hard time. Look up with a spirit of gratitude and say, “It is well.” Nothing can separate you from God's love. You have no reason to worry about anything because Christ has conquered even death, and He is coming back for His children one day. Keep hope in your heart and on your lips no matter what. It is well.
