Measuring Limits – Day 2

When the Lord wants to use us, the first thing we often do is pull out our measuring tape. Like Moses, we give God all the reasons why we, in our own limited ability, limited circumstances and limited understanding, can’t do what He’s calling us to do. When God called me to be the pastor of Free Chapel, in my mind I pulled out a measuring tape. I said, “God, I don’t have any experience. I’m an evangelist. I have about 20 good sermons. That means we’re going to have 20 weeks of revival. And as soon as that time is up, those people are going to see I really can’t preach.” On and on I went with reasons why I couldn’t measure up to His call. And if I had continued, I would have measured myself out of a bunch of miracles.

When the angel of the Lord spoke to Gideon, he called him a “mighty man of valor.” But Gideon immediately took out his measuring tape and gave the messenger of God all the reasons why he was limited: “How can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house” (Judges 6:11-16). But when God calls us to do something, He doesn’t consult with family. My family might have agreed with me that I wasn’t experienced enough to follow God’s calling. But the Lord encouraged my spirit so much when He said to me, “You are unlikely, but you are not un-useable.”

Do you have a measuring stick on your future, your dream, your vision or your finances? Throw it out! In 2 Kings 4:1-7, the widow collected as many vessels as she could. Oil supernaturally filled each jar and would have continued — but she ran out of jars. In our situations, God is not out of oil, He’s out of vessels. The Lord told the Israelites to take the Promised Land. It was theirs. But they measured His promise against the size of the giants they saw there. So they never entered into the Promised Land.

God’s plans are so vast, no yardstick or ruler of ours can measure it. I challenge you to declare with me today: no limits! Your children are blessed. Your business or career is blessed. Your marriage and family are blessed. Your future is blessed by the immeasurable favor of God.
