Limitless Possibilities

I wonder how many miracles the children of God have missed over the centuries because of our need to measure and control what we can’t understand. How many times have we tried to measure His promises based on the limits of our own experience or imagination? Too many times, we hinder the miraculous by pulling out a measuring stick on the God who has limitless possibilities.

Do you remember what happened when Jesus went back to visit His hometown of Nazareth? He didn’t do any miracles there because the people were so busy measuring Him up that they had no faith to believe (Matthew 13:54-58). They thought they knew Him. Jesus grew up in Nazareth. He played there as a young boy. He was just like one of them. But they questioned His legitimacy. They knew He ate with sinners and prostitutes. By their own measure, Jesus was no better than the rest of them. They measured their way out of a miracle.

Mark 6:6 tells us that Jesus “marveled because of their unbelief.” But about 30 miles northeast in Capernaum, “all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them” (Luke 4:40). He healed all who were sick! What made the difference? One town had a “measuring stick” mentality that limited the work of God. The other had faith for the immeasurable.

You and I can’t possibly measure the supernatural. You can only measure something that has a beginning point and an ending point. You can measure your crisis. You can measure your wilderness. You can measure your famine. But God is bigger than your crisis, your wilderness and your famine. He is bigger than your sin. You may feel like sin has dragged you to the deepest valley, but His redeeming blood flows deeper still. Do not limit God by the measurement of your own view of the situation.
