Changing the Atmosphere

For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.
-Isaiah 44:3

Just west of the shores of Scotland lies a string of small islands known as the Hebrides. A mighty revival spread across those islands from 1949 to 1952. Why those tiny little islands? What was significant about them?

Christine and Peggy Smith were in their eighties and too crippled to attend church regularly. But that didn’t let that stop them from having a burden for the souls of the young people of the islands because they were becoming indifferent to the gospel.

The sisters began to pray the promise found in Isaiah 44:3 and they had a vision of the church filled with young people. They shared it with the elders, and several began to meet in a nearby barn to wait on the Lord. One night the deacons became convicted, repented, and the Holy Spirit swept through that barn in a fresh and powerful way. Roughly 75 percent of the inhabitants of those islands were saved in three years. Talk about changing the atmosphere!

THINK ABOUT IT–
What is holding you back from an outpouring of the Spirit?

PRAYER FOR TODAY—
Heavenly Father,
I repent of self-will, stubbornness, and everything that gives the devil a foothold in my life. I’m ready to break the Python’s chokehold and see revival released. Amen.
