God’s Perspective on Parenting
The enemy has a secret attack plan. It’s called isolation. He knows there’s strength in numbers and that the further he can divide and separate us, the more vulnerable we’ll become. It’s important to stay connected to each other. That’s why the four lessons in this week’s message are vital to parenting! Here are three rules you can start applying right now: Be fair, be firm and be fun!

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together … but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV).
Connection questions:
- What is one way we honor our parents?
- The sermon identifies that God listens to, understands, loves and disciplines His children—us! Recall a scripture or personal experience that illustrates one of those instances.
- In which area do you feel your family is the strongest?
- Which area could you work on improving? (Think of love as giving attention and affection.)
- Unresolved resentment can destroy families. What must we learn to do?
- How do penguins survive the coldest Antarctic weather?
Conclusion:
We need each other. And just like Hebrews 10:25 explains, as the day gets closer, or in other words, as things get worse and the return of our Lord draws near, even more so should we join together and encourage one another. Let’s start in our homes and with our families. Work on building relationships with your children, your spouse, your parents and God that has two-way communication. Want them to honor you? Be honorable. Do you want them to listen? Then you must listen. We’re better together. It’s that simple!
UPDATE: It’s more important than ever for believers to build-up the walls of faith in our families and to stand firm for what we believe. From the beginning of time, Satan has been out to destroy families. It is his number one priority. He understands that when the family unit is divided, havoc can be wreaked. And statistics would tell us, he’s pretty effective. But there is hope for those in Christ Jesus. Nehemiah talks about when we fight for our families, God will fight for us. And the good news is, when God fights, He wins—every time!
