How Desperate for a Miracle Are You?

Cry out to Jesus, hurting and brokenhearted, cry out! Cry out for forgiveness, healing, for your marriage, your children, for all things cry out! If you feel empty, hopeless or lonely, cry out! Jesus loves you, cry out!

In the Bible, we notice a pattern in which Jesus is passing by and the desperation of the people made Him stop and deliver a miracle. We know that God is sovereign, He knows all things and He can do whatever He wants. However, the fact that He would like us to call after Him in faith is evident in His Word.

In Luke 19:1-6, there is a story of a little man by the name of Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus realized that the answer was not in himself, he could not make himself grow. The answer was in a tree. The tree, which represents Calvary, enlarged Zacchaeus. The tree allowed him to see Jesus. And more importantly, the tree made it possible for Jesus to see Zacchaeus’ desperation. When you get in the tree called Calvary, Jesus sees what is in your heart and how much you desire it.

Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Come down out of the tree because I’m going to your house today.” Jesus could have just passed by, but He saw what Zacchaeus did, and Zacchaeus’ action moved Jesus’ heart. So much so, that He went to Zacchaeus’ house and changed his life forever.

Jesus wants to do the same for YOU. How desperate you are to receive a change in your life?

Another example is the story of Blind Bartimaeus in Mark 10:46-52. In this story, Jesus is also passing by, and Bartimaeus cried out with a loud voice, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Some of the “church people” came to Bartimaeus and said, “You need to calm down.” However, the Bible says that he cried even louder. As a result, he received the miracle. The Bible says that when Bartimaeus cried out, “Jesus stood still!” The Son of God, the King of kings … stood still! Bartimaeus’ desperation made Jesus stop, call him, and ask him, “What do you want me to do for you?”

What a powerful moment! Imagine for a moment Jesus turning and saying that to you.

Questions

  1. What are you willing to do to get the attention of God?
  2. If Jesus were to stop suddenly and look at you and ask what you want…what would you ask for?
  3. What is bothering you? What’s not letting you sleep during the night?
  4. Are you desperate for a miracle? Are you desperate enough to cry out for Him? If yes, then do it. If no, why not?
