Fighting for Food in Haiti

Greetings from Haiti! We want to thank you so much for sponsoring a container of food [272,000 meals] for the Haitian people—especially the children.

We realize that there is nothing being said in the media about the conditions here in Haiti, but if you Google it, you can see some of what we are going through here. Haiti is now like living in a war-zone, with violent gangs and roadblocks almost every day.

[As of this letter] we have been able to get one container released from Haitian Customs, but we have seven more containers locked up and sitting there, because Customs is “closed.”

The shortage of fuel has been blamed on the Haitian President, so there are riots every day, roadblocks, burning cars, etc. All the missionaries and organizations here call one another to find out which roads are closed or blockaded and try to find the safest routes to travel and deliver food.

They want to overthrow the President. Haiti is in a political, economic, fuel and food crisis. In the 27 years of living here, Pastor Jentezen, we have never seen the people so hungry and so desperate. It breaks our hearts.

Mothers here in Haiti who sell in the market to make a few dollars can no longer sell. They are struggling each day and hunger is like a giant vulture, circling Haiti. Each day we have mothers at our gate with their hungry children, begging for food. Sometimes, it is hard to sleep at night because we know what is happening. Children are hungry and there are those that are dying from malnutrition and starvation. The conditions in Haiti are hard enough as it is for families to work, earn money, and grown food. Add to that the danger and restrictions this political climate is causing and it makes it almost impossible to keep children fed and healthy.

We’ve attached a picture of Junia. She is a little girl from one of the villages that makes those mud cookies to sell and to eat. She and her little siblings work very hard carrying buckets of water to mix with the special “clay mud” to make those mud cookies, which help to take away their hunger. Neither she nor her siblings have ever been to school. As the food crisis here in Haiti grows, and food prices are higher, people cannot afford to feed their children. Many of the poor resort to buying those cheap mud cookies. They make and sell them by the thousands!

That is why your monthly food support is so desperately needed.

We will begin doing food distributions from your Kingdom Connection Food Distribution Center tomorrow with the food that we have now, and we pray that more food will be released soon.

Kingdom Connection Village [100 Homes] is doing very well. We will be distributing food to them this week and they will be jumping up and down praising God and thanking you and your Kingdom Connection Partners!

You may not realize what a "presence" you and Kingdom Connection have here in Haiti. We cannot thank you enough for all your faithful support.

Each month Jentezen Franklin Ministries sends 272,000 meals to Haiti. Malnutrition is one of the leading causes of death in Haiti with roughly 1 in 14 infants never seeing their 1st birthday. While we have supported numerous additional projects in Haiti over the years, sending food each month is a commitment we’ve kept for over a decade—and with your support, we can continue for years to come. For just $120 YOU can send 3,240 meals.
