Open the Gateway

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33

Fasting is not a requirement. Fasting is a choice. No one said you have to fast but still, you’ve chosen this journey. You see the difference fasting made in the bible—when deliverance came, when healing came, when purpose was fulfilled—and you have chosen to fast for a reason. Fasting is choosing to break out of the routine in order to draw closer to God. If that’s your only reason … that’s reason enough!

I chose to develop a lifestyle of prayer and fasting over twenty-five years ago, and I do not know of anything that has been more powerful in my Christian life. It is true in my personal experience and it is true for our church, as evidenced by the multitude of powerful testimonies that stem from our annual corporate fast at Free Chapel like one received just this week.

After 10 years of fasting and praying, God’s promise to me was fulfilled. I gave birth to a baby boy. My first child. 2002 I was told that I could not have children … 2010 pastor prayed for me and other women who wanted children but were told they couldn’t. 12-12-12, two days before a partial hysterectomy was scheduled, God spoke to me through pastor to be still regarding my surgery. I canceled the surgery the next day. Two weeks later I found out I was pregnant. All pre-op testing was complete and although I was pregnant at the time, my levels were not high enough. The surgery would have happened had God not spoken to me. I never lost faith with God’s promise to me. 8-21-13 I gave birth to my son. 11-10-13, he was dedicated at church. —Celeste

I am more convinced than ever that fasting is a gateway through which God releases His supernatural power into our lives. The choice is ours: we can either open that gateway or ignore it and keep on going in our routines. With each passing year I become more certain that this annual fast, set aside to honor God with the “first” of our year, is truly part of His design and calling.

People all over America and the far reaches of the world—at least 54 countries—are beginning to see that fasting is not just for a select few, but that God is a rewarder of all who diligently seek Him.
