Cave of Couples

Lets be honest for a moment, marriage is tough. Brutal on selfishness, it tries most everyone who stays within its confines long enough. Seasons of change inevitably come and rattle its cage, and many couples do not stand the shaking years.

Our culture inundates us with the normalcy of divorce. A few signed documents, a nominal fee and you can regain your perceived freedom back. Freedomtastes sweet for a moment, but it doesnt last long.

Though it may be easy to nullify your marriage on paper, the hidden shockwaves continue to devastate those in its path. And much to many peoples surprise, the ripple effect stretches further than the two involved. Divorce wrecks.

Why is that the case?

Because God instituted marriage as one of His most powerful offensive weapons for His kingdom. You see, in marriage, two people are able to be 10 times as effective in battling spiritual warfare. When a couple settles on standing together through lifes storms, double the strength rests upon them, double the protection, and double the favor blanket them.

Marriage in itself is a cave. It is not always the most comfortable or the easiest place to rest your head, but it is sturdy. If you commit to it, when lifes storms beat the rocks around you, it serves as a mighty fortress.

This is not a message of condemnation. Statistics would tell us that one in every two once-married individuals reading this, are now divorced. God has grace for you! There is no decision that can keep you from His love, forgiveness and redemption. Certainly, there are cases where it is just not safe to stay in the confines of marriage, and the bible releases those who are the victims of infidelity. But when your marriage hits a rough patch hold on!  Fight for what is left!

Abraham and Sarah left an impact on generations to come because of their vows to one another. They started a journey together and they ended the journey together. They were not perfect, but they committed to finishing what they started.

If you happened upon this today and need a word of encouragement, soak in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (NKJV).

If you allow it, even as difficult as this season may be, God will use the storm to fortify your cave even further. Let your life and marriage be a testimony of His redemptive power. If the rain is beating down and you feel as if you can’t stand, grab the hand of the one you vowed your heart to, and head back to the strong walls of the cave.
He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).
