Day 1: God First
Our Free Chapel church family along with our Kingdom Connection family begins each year by fasting for 21 days. Fasting in January, giving God our first, establishes His will in our lives for the ENTIRE year! This “Fasting Movement” at beginning of the year is spreading around the world and across denominational boundaries because it’s based on Biblical principles.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Mathew 6:33).
Because there’s more to life … more to faith … more to us—God gives us a formula for success.
And that formula boils down to four words: “In the beginning, God…” (Genesis 1:1). God first! Too often when we face tough time, we wait to cry out to God until after we’ve tried everything else.
How do we seek Him first? I can never say it enough—through fasting and prayer.
Fasting is a discipline that helps shift our priority to put God first and then wait and allow Him to show us His plan, receive His direction and His blessings. If you want success in our lives, in our marriages, in our work—putting God first is the key.
When God is our first priority, He can use us to help others. God hears the cry of the oppressed and the unsaved. The words of Isaiah 58:6-14 give us insight into how significantly God views the power of fasting.
For some of the Jewish people, fasting became a faithless mechanical performance full of strife, anger and lashing out. They weren’t truly humbling themselves and repenting of any known sin while fasting.
“Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To lose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out …” (Isaiah 58:6-7).
The way we treat others while fasting matters. The motive of our heart while fasting also matters. When we come before Him “as is” with true humility, we will see God’s work begin.
“Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’” (Isaiah 58:8-9).
Start the year off right. Discover the rewards of putting God first in all things. I look forward to what God will do in our lives and in our land as we seek Him together.

People go on different types of fasting. Some do full, liquid, or partial fastings. Being some people have health issues, they fast in what they can do and God blesses this! As far as your heart…set it to seek His will for you. Use this time to pray, praise, and ask Him to renew you and to define His will for your life. Fasting is a time to seek God not only for His will in your life but to have Him do a new thing in you and to get rid of those things in you that are not of Him, to break strongholds in your life and whatever else you are believing Him for or need Him to do in your life. Do a fasting that you know you can do and not one you can’t! He will honor what you do…God bless you as you see HIs face for your life! Oh, and make sure you pray! Fasting without prayer is nothing more than a fancy diet!!

Also it’s up to you on what you want to not eat..for me, I drink only water and eatfruit and veggies. Some people only eat once a day …whatever you do just do it to the glory of God He will honor and bless it…trust me I know!!!!!

I dont’ know you, but had the same questions in regards to fasting and the best thing I could suggest is to buy the book, “The Daniel Fast,” by Susan Gregory. It only costs me $12.00, and it clearly explains the whole fasting process and helps to set a plan of action for you to follow. It lists all the foods that they say are within the limits, and are not. It really simplified this for me and has helped me to grow so much closer to God than I have ever been my whole life. It, in essence, is really between you and God and what you want to gain from this experience. God Bless in all your endeavors!

Truly the one thing I love about fasting is being empty. Empty before God, so he can fill me with His Spirit. Relying upon his word for my daily strength. It is usually about the 3rd day, things begin to shift. Eyes being opened, ears hearing and heart responding. Can’t wait.

I am ready for this fast. I know it’s going to be tough. I’m 8 weeks pregnant and just like candy in general. As a woman, wife, mother, employee, a therapist, writer of 1st book, etc: I want to seek God even more and move into a stronger place with Him. There’s changes in our family with our second child to be born in August, but I’m excited to move closer to God and I pray for my husband’s job, his spiritual life etc. I know God is going to do great things and He’s done already wonderful things. I’m joining from Canada, it’s my second year. I submitted a comment earlier, about how I got the start date wrong – I thought it started tomorrow and I realized when I tuned in to the broadcast this morning, that it started today. I also mentioned that though I felt down about that, I intended to pick myself up and keep on with the fasting movement because I believe there’s more. I realize the comment wasn’t posted. I was hoping that sharing my experience of starting from a place of weakness, and yet leaning on God’s grace, might encourage someone else who may also be starting out not feeling like they have all the strength in the world to go through. Furthermore, I believe that as we encourage each other with our posts, we will be able to look back and see how grace carries us through – both the pros, and the novices, those who feel so pumped about it, and those who decide to stick with it regardless of how they feel. I was a bit disappointed to realize the comment wasn’t posted, because it made me feel as if one could only contribute to this forum if your comment shows you are strong, excited and very able. I may not feel all these all the time, but I am willing to go the distance, and I submit to God, asking for grace to help me through when it’s difficult. Looking forward to this fast! Last year was a very difficult year for us as a family. We lost a loved one unexpectedly and it has forever changed our family. That happened in March. I believe that because my husband and I fasted in the beginning of the year, God kept us through everything we went through. I don’t think we would have been able to make it through this past year if it wasn’t for us giving God our first fruit. We are still dealing with things regarding the lost of our loved one, but I know just as before, God is with us and will keep us. Can’t wait to see what God has for us in 2013 as we seek Him with all our hearts.

Praise God for the fast! This is my second year doing the 21 day fast and I am looking forward for the blessing that God will bestow on my life and the lives of my family!
Last year, after going though the 21 day fast, I lost my job and was out of work for 3 months.But I held on to the promises of God and remembered the fast, God then opened the doors for me to get back with the same company as a contract employee. 6 months later, I was hired on as a full time employee!!
All praises and honor goes to God who made this happen. I firmly believe that being apart of the 21 day fast at the beginning of the year was a key to God moving in my life and the life of my family!!!

I knew the Lord was leading me, an inner nudging, and as I was getting ready for church yesterday (1/6/13) I was talking to the Lord and saying if He wanted me to fast my pastor would say something about it and sure enough at the very end of the service my pastor did talk about fasting and the whole congregation together and asked us to pray and seek God about what “He’ would have us to do for this fast. Confirmation!!! Giving God all praise and glory in ADVANCE for what He is going to do in our obedience, in 2013!!

My husband and I have joined the 2013 fasting and praying. We are believing the Lord for a child. We have been married for 12 years and we have wanted a child for a long time. We went through failed adoptions and a miscarriage. So our fast this year is to seek the Lord even more and believe for a child. I hope that you will pray and believe with us that God will give us a child that we can offer back to Him.

This year I need prayers for strength and health as I am not getting time to listen to God’s word as I am babysitting the whole day with my 21 month old grandson and doing household chores. Fasting, praying and giving do NOT guarantee that things will get better in your life. In fact, they might GET WORSE, and then not get better for a VERY LONG time! Be sure that you go into it with the right attitude, which is that you are doing it to worship and give glory to God and NOT because you are expecting any kind of reward or blessing in return.

Shouldnt we come before the throne with confidence and with GREAT expectation? Yes, we should….absolutely. I agree we must search our hearts when fashing, but we also have to expect great things from our great God. More importantly we should see the greatness in the small things that will happen during our fast and prayer. I for one am expecting answers – revelation and break through….

I fasted with you in ’09 and received the four things that I prayed about. God has been ministering to my heart about a husband for a few years, but has quickened His will about this over the last five months. Now I am to fast for him for ten days. God gave me the date ” 6- 2013, june 2013″ This time it’s for me , not the four corners( world event). I will try to fast for the 21 days, but I know that All of my needs are supplied by my heavenly Father, in Jesus name!!! Feel His grace cover you as you draw closer to His Majesty♡♥♡♥♡
