Inside Out

As in water face reflects face, So a man’s heart reveals the man. —Proverbs 27:19

Continue to be open to the conviction of the Holy Spirit during this fast because the only cure for sin is to be cleansed and changed from the inside out. When it comes to the heart of man, what goes in also comes out.

That is why Jesus exposed the Pharisees for their pious religious front. He called them pretenders and hypocrites, saying, “You are like tombs that have been whitewashed, which look beautiful on the outside but inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything impure. Just so, you also outwardly seem to people to be just and upright but inside you are full of pretense and lawlessness and iniquity.” —Matthew 23:27-28

They looked the part. They played the role. They religiously went through the motions. But they spent much more attention creating the outward standard than they spent following the inward standard. What is on the inside will show on the outside. Think about it this way: When someone gets sick with the flu and nausea takes hold, that person doesn’t need training on how to make what is inside…come out. The body knows how to do that all by itself! When you have junk inside—junk comes out. But in like manner, when you have Jesus inside—Jesus comes out.

I think the longer we serve the Lord the easier it can be to get caught up in the routine of religion. I have to fight that at times. I feel the pressure to be what I am expected to be outwardly even though I may feel totally drained inside. That is why we have to be careful not to put so much energy into keeping up the outward appearance that before long it’s just that—an exterior whitewashing to cover a withering interior. It is dangerous for a person or a ministry to be growing outwardly but shrinking in passion for Jesus inwardly.

If I sense my passion for Jesus beginning to fade, I fast. I can’t stress enough how fasting helps you regain the edge when you are growing dull. It immediately helps you get refocused on only those things that really matter, and cleanse yourself of the rest. Fasting helps you maintain the inward brokenness that allows God to make your outside match your inside. It’s living “inside out.” You don’t have to fake it on the outside when you are full of the Lord on the inside.

I haven’t struggle with food as much as I have struggle with my thoughts and bad attitude towards someone in my family. I had a real mean heart towards someone in my family. Someone who would do anything thing for me, but I just couldn’t shake the bad feelings I had towards her. I kept thinking about all the bad that person has done to me, I started to think suspiciously towards her and soon my heart was full of anger towards her. I prayed about it because the way I was treating her wasn’t right. Even I knew what I was doing was wrong. Because every time I did something unkind to her I would feel bad about it later. I needed God to help me get these negative thoughts out of my mind and have a good heart towards her. God spoke conviction into my heart and said, treat others the way you want to be treated. Be kind, show compassion you are not doing it for anybody else you are doing it for me. I am more aware of my actions and attitude now, remembering to be kind show compassion and love towards her. I couldn’t have done it without you Lord. Thank you for you showing me what was wrong with my heart. I will continue to remember to walk in love in your Love Lord.

God bless you! The enemy targets us in different ways. I too have had an attack on my thoughts and relationships but to the glory of God we will prevail in this fast through our Lord Jesus Christ! It is true that our passion for our Lord is the most important thing and I pray that he meets the desires of our heart to serve him and be transformed by him.

Thank you so much for the wonderful encouraging words, that are so true. I’m a firm believer that what is in you will come out of you, that’s why we as Christians have to be very careful whom we choose to let be apart of our inner circle, whom we choose to let in our home, and around our family. Today during our morning Sunday service, God was moving in that place today, I cried out to the Lord and felt the presence of God all over me, as I was calling on his name, I felt his hands upon me lifting the burdens and breaking the chains that have been holding me bound for so long. I’m so excited to be apart of the corporate fast, because I know God is bringing His Super Natural upon us all. Stay encouraged Saints, God love and cares for us all.

Thanks so much for the devotional Pastor Franklin! I joined this fast after learning about it from your book about fasting last year. Your ministry has been a blessing to my life and I pray that God in his goodness and mercy will give you the passion for Christ you so earnestly seek and preach about. I would like for you to pray for God to bless me with 100% victory from the enemy as I notice a trend of having disparaging thoughts during my prayers/worship. I ask for the Holy Spirit to reign his power over my thought life and shed the love of our Lord on my heart.

    God bless you

As I rejoiced with Matthew, the young man for whom Pastor Franklin prayed this morning; the Lord spoke to me and told me “I am breaking the shackles off your life also, those things in this fast about which you have been praying!” Thank you Father for your continued mercy and grace.I’ve been looking forward to this fast since October 2013! Thank you Pastor Franklin for continuing to lead God’s people, as He leads you. Be Blessed.

Oh, that’s my desire – Living inside out. My soul cries Yes Lord, Yes Lord, Yes Lord Yes. I need you to be the center of my life – From my heart to the heavens, Jesus be the Center of my heart. There is a song we used to sing a long time ago and it came up into my spirit “Keep me true Lord Jesus, Keep me true, There is a race to be won, there are victories to be got. Every hour on the hour to be true ”

Thank you Pastor, for the Word.

Father, cleanse me on the inside by living in me. Then your heart will show on the outside without me trying on my own. Lord when you are in control, I don’t have to do anything other than follow your footsteps. Thank you Jesus for making this possible for me.
